GOVERNMENT’S PLANNED PENSION CHANGES TO IMPACT LOCAL PENSIONERS

Malcolm Turnbull is making it harder for pensioners in our local area to continue to receive a full pension while travelling overseas.

The changes apply to pensioners who have spent less than 35 years of their working life in Australia.  These pensioners can currently stay overseas for 26 weeks while receiving the full pension, the Liberals want to cut this back to six weeks.

Our area of Sydney is one of the most multicultural in Australia with more than 55 per cent of residents born overseas.

Many pensioners save for years to travel overseas in retirement to visit family and friends or return to their country of birth.

Sometimes people travel to care for sick or dying relatives, this will be made more difficult because of this change.

Pensioners have worked hard their whole lives and deserve respect in their retirement.

Labor is standing up for pensioners by opposing the Turnbull Government’s cuts to the pension.
