DRESS FOR WORK GETS FUNDING BOOST

Member for Watson, Tony Burke, this week announced funding to renovate office space to house the Dress for Work program offered by Metro Assist in Campsie.

Mr Burke said the announcement would positively assist those seeking and entering employment.

“Employment has a positive impact on the lives of individuals and their families,” Mr Burke said. “If people look and feel their best as they seek employment or enter the workforce, their enthusiasm, their energy and their confidence are all boosted.”

WHITE STONE COUNSELLING PROGRAM

Member for Watson, Tony Burke, Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare, Shadow Assistant Minister for Health, Stephen Jones, and Member for Parramatta, Julie Owens, today announced a Shorten Labor Government will invest extra funding to expand the services offered by not-for-profit counselling organisation White Stone.

Labor's commitment amounts to $800,000 to improve the therapeutic spaces used by White Stone throughout Western Sydney and boost the counselling services offered.

The announcement recognises the importance of addiction recovery services, as community concerns about substance abuse, particularly the drug ice, continue to grow.

SYDNEY MULTICULTURAL ARTS & SPORTS PRECINCT

Joint Media Release with the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese.

Member for Watson, Tony Burke, and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese, today committed to build the Sydney Multicultural Arts and Sports Precinct in Belmore if Labor forms Government after the next election. 

The announcement comes three years after Mr Burke and Mr Albanese made an initial commitment to the precinct, along with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Sydney Olympic Football Club and Canterbury City Council. 

However, without a matching commitment from the NSW Liberal Government the project has been in limbo. Today's announcement means if Labor forms Government after the next election, the Sydney Multicultural Arts and Sports Precinct will be built.

UPGRADE FOR JANNAWI FAMILY CENTRE

Member for Watson Tony Burke this week announced funding to upgrade the Jannawi Family Centre in Wiley Park.

The investment in the centre will go towards improved floors, upgraded play equipment, landscaping, computers and specialised resources designed to help trauma recovery.

Mr Burke said the announcement renews Jannawi Family Centre’s premises, builds on its existing resources and helps to make Jannawi’s work more responsive to families experiencing trauma.

NEW FLOORING FOR THE CHINESE AUSTRALIAN SERVICES SOCIETY (CASS)

Member for Watson Tony Burke this week announced support to replace the soft fall flooring at the Chinese Australian Services Society (CASS) child care centre in Campsie.

Mr Burke said the announcement would ensure children at the centre were safe and had a good time.
