Federal Member for Watson and Shadow Finance Minister Tony Burke today welcomed the announcement of a partnership between the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and White Ribbon.

Mr Burke, a long-time Patron of the Bulldogs and a 10-year White Ribbon Ambassador, said he had never been more proud of the team.

“This announcement marks the first time a professional sporting team in Australia has partnered with White Ribbon and I couldn’t be more proud of our team,” Mr Burke said.

“White Ribbon is important because it’s about dealing with violence against women before it occurs. It’s about men saying ‘violence against women is never acceptable,’”

One in three women in Australia will experience domestic violence and one in four children will be exposed to domestic violence.

“We know we can do better, we know we can be part of the story of eliminating violence against women,” Mr Burke said.

“White Ribbon is one of the most important causes we can support both as a nation and in our communities.

“I’ll be walking for White Ribbon Day this Tuesday in Lakemba and I urge as many people as possible to join us.”

The Lakemba White Ribbon Day March will commence at 6:00pm on Tuesday, 25 November at Gillies Street in Lakemba.

Tuesday, 25 November is International Day of Eliminating Violence Against Women, also known as White Ribbon Day.
